IVF can be an exciting but also challenging journey for women, and represents a path of determination as you navigate the highs and lows, embracing the possibility of creating a family and the profound desire to experience the joys of motherhood.

Going through the IVF process can have various emotional, physical and psychological effects on a woman. It is important to recognize that each individual's experience may differ, and not everyone will have the same response.

what happens

Every woman will experience this process differently, which can ultimately depend on your health, your support network and how you manage stress and anxiety.

Your initial health, including reproductive health, your overall health status, any pre-existing medical conditions, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle factors and body weight may all influence and can potentially affect the outcomes.

The use of acupuncture alongside IVF treatment may offer several potential benefits in enhancing blood circulation to the reproductive organs, having an impact on stress and anxiety levels and providing an opportunity to support and address individual concerns, while fostering wellbeing and empowerment.

how Chinese medicine can help

Acupuncture for IVF

As published in the British Medical Journalacupuncture is also effective for women undertaking IVF when applied before and after Embryo transfers.  Evidence from research suggests that acupuncture given with embryo transfer improves rates of successful pregnancy and live birth.

Acupuncture support for IVF treatment can begin at least 2 months prior to your IVF treatment schedule, in order to support your menstrual cycle and ovulation. As well as acupuncture, lifestyle and Chinese dietary therapy suggestions will be provided to further assist your preconception support.

How does it help?

Acupuncture may offer potential benefits when used alongside IVF treatment:

  • to enhance blood circulation to reproductive organs that may provide a more favourable environment for reception of IVF

  • may assist with regulating hormone levels to enhance the menstrual cycle

  • promote relaxation and help reduce stress levels in order to foster a calmer state of mind during IVF treatments

  • assisting with side effect symptoms of nausea, bloating and fatigue from IVF medications

  • sessions provide an opportunity for women to receive supportive care throughout their IVF journey

In order to receive safe and effective Acupuncture interventions tailored to your specific needs, it is paramount that treatment is under the guidance of an APHRA qualified and registered Chinese medicine practitioner.
